London 2012 bid hires Vancouver Games marketer

LONDON - London's application to host the 2012 Olympics has been boosted by the recruitment of one of the marketing supremos involved in Vancouver's successful bid for the 2010 Winter Games.

Dave Doroghy joins London 2012 as director of sales. He will have responsibility for recruiting sponsors to the capital's bid.

Doroghy's appointment is significant because of his experience working on a bid under new International Olympic Committee rules aimed at cleaning up the selection process.

Doroghy was appointed by, and reports to, London 2012 marketing director David Magliano.

Complex IOC rules mean that bid sponsors can not use Olympic imagery in marketing campaigns until after final submissions are made in a year's time.

London's initial outline application must be submitted in January, with bidding cities learning whether they become official candidates in May.
