London 2012 bid calls for free media space

The UK's biggest retailers and some unusual media owners will be urged to back London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games by donating space to promote its logo.

David Magliano, London 2012's marketing director, said he would be looking to build awareness of the bid by featuring the logo in the windows of major retailers, on airport check-in screens and on major London landmarks to galvanise support for London's campaign.

London 2012 announced this week that a panel of ordinary Londoners and former British Olympians will help pick the logo for the capital's bid to stage the Olympics, following an open competition to design it.

Magliano confirmed he will appoint advertising and media agencies to work with London 2012 once the process to find the logo designer is under way.
