Liverpool City Council has revealed a programme of events to pay tribute to the Fab Four, put together with organisations across the city.
The Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Beatles classics on two special evenings on 22 and 23 June, while Liverpool Philharmonic Beatles Weekend will take over the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall from 7 to 9 December, using music, film footage and acting to tell the stories of the band and John Lennon.
Every Saturday throughout the year The Cavern Club - where the Beatles first performed - will hold tribute evenings in its Live Lounge. It will mark 50 years since the band’s first gig at the club with a party.
In August, two stages at the 20th Mathew Street Music Festival and Fringe will host tribute bands with a special section for acts influenced by The Beatles. On 18 August, Hulme Hall will hold a special concert to mark the day Ringo Starr made his debut with The Beatles as their official drummer.
During International Beatles Week on 22-28 August, bands and Beatles fans from around the world will descend on the city for gigs, guest speakers and the world’s biggest Beatles convention.
A special Love Me Do weekend will take place at Albert Dock on 5–7 October to celebrate the release of The Beatles’ first single. It will feature music performances and a record-breaking attempt that has yet to be revealed.
On 9 December a John Lennon Peace Vigil will take place at the European Peace Monument near the Echo Arena, marking 32 years since the performer was killed.
Joe Anderson, leader of Liverpool City Council, said: "This is a hugely significant year in the history of The Beatles and it’s one Liverpool couldn’t let pass by without a huge celebration. We should never underestimate the power of The Beatles to attract visitors to the city, and this year-long celebration will bring even more fans to Liverpool which will bring a much-needed boost to our local economy."

We look forward to welcoming thousands of new visitors to our city and promise them all a unique cultural experience as they explore the roots of The Beatles and their enduring influence on the world."
