Little Chef tests 'relaxed' format

Little Chef is moving away from its functional, service-station image to a more relaxed dining experience, with trials of a refurbished format.

The first overhauled outlet has opened in Thame, Oxfordshire. It features a revamped signage, as well as redesigned cutlery, menus, staff uniforms and interiors, created by design agency Keanebrands. The Little Chef icon remains within the logo, which now uses a script-style typeface.

Marketing director Ann Elliott said feedback from the 'makeover' outlet had been positive, but added that other options are being explored.

Little Chef has also introduced healthier food trials at 14 of its 360 restaurants as part of changes to is menu.

Menus now include low-carbohydrate breakfasts and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, as well as a 'quickbite' range of snack salads and sandwiches.
