The lowdown: The term 'early adopter' could have been invented for

a porn website, having mistaken it for a money site.

Hotel: Grand Wailea, Maui.
The lowdown: Famous for posing in loud Hawaiian shirts, the
buttoned-down Californian may run Grey one day (if Ed Meyer ever steps
down). Formed an unlikely partnership with Derbyshire's Tim Mellors at
the London office although his system of colour-coded 'agencies within
an agency' failed to take off. Seems to have worked in New York, though.
BLAZEY, MORAG
Current job: Managing director, PHD Media. +44 (0)20 7446 0555.

The lowdown: The 'formidable' Blazey used her small stature to her

drive and determination are evidenced by the global success of BBH. A
true pioneer.

Music: Always, The Lighthouse Family (pop); Carmen, Georges Bizet
(classical).
Hotel: Amman Dari, Bali, Indonesia.
The lowdown: The low-key Bolton was a surprise hiring to JWT's London
shop, but he has steadily proved his worth in the past two years,
despite an obsession with telling the world that the agency was moving
to new offices.

Book: Akta dig for Rodskin.
Music: The White Stripes.
Hotel: Esalen Institute, Big Sur.
The lowdown: Bond's talent is demonstrated by the fact that it's only
taken him four years to hit the big time. Clearly ambitious, Bond's
signing to the US-based MJZ will give him more scope to add his dark
humour and quirky vision to ads there.
BOWLES, JEREMY JOHN

Lowe, board account director to head of account management, client
services director, deputy managing director and managing director.

make (before and better than the BBC film, in my opinion).

Professional organisations: The Marketing Society; IPA.
Clubs: None.
Hates: Mediocrity.
Loves: Playing and watching sport.

Music: Gimme Shelter, The Rolling Stones.
Hotel: Belle Rive, Najac.
The lowdown: An ITV sales institution after an early career in a Torquay
jewellers foundered. Equally happy with both the creative and media
sides of the industry, Bowley has the unique ability to sell you
something without you even realising it.
BOYD, CHRIS
Current job: Chief executive, Audit Bureau of Circulations.
Details: Not supplied.
The lowdown: Well-known for his unstoppable enthusiasm, Boyd is a
fast-talking bundle of energy. A rare beast in that he follows this
through by actually implementing his thoughts.
BRAY, MICHAEL
Current job: President, DDB Europe, BMP DDB. +44 (0)20 7258 3979.
Details: Not supplied.
The lowdown: Bray is DDB's Mr International. He has worked across three
continents, speaks multiple languages and has dual US and UK
citizenship. He is also a company man, although he doesn't like to be
characterised as one, with 25 years of DDB experience.

Favourite ad: 'Points of view', The Guardian.
Film: Anything by Joel and Ethan Cohen.
Book: Flying Colours, CS Forrester.
Music: Symphony No 3, Henryk Gorecki.
Hotel: It's a secret.
The lowdown: Briginshaw is good company and easy to get along with, but
there is a golden rule. Don't call the agency Miles Calcraft. He cannot
conceal his annoyance if his name is missed off the agency's moniker.
BROADBENT, TIMOTHY JAMES
Born: London, 1 October 1953.
Family: Simon and Ann Broadbent (parents); Kathy Wood (partner).

Admires: Manolo Blahnik (for Kathy, you understand. Not me.)
Favourite ad: 'Gertcha', Courage Best.
Film: Some Like It Hot, Billy Wilder.
Book: Right Ho, Jeeves, PG Wodehouse (I was once privileged to witness

laughing so helplessly at a passage in this book that he fell from his
deckchair, spilling his drink).
Music: Bedspring Symphony (bootleg), The Rolling Stones.
Hotel: Le Sirenuse, Italy.
The lowdown: His James Bond villain looks belie his reputation as a
planner who believes in and understands the measurement of effective
advertising. Famous for his ability to make complex ideas simple enough
to inspire creative work that produces tangible results.

Admires: Mum and dad.
Favourite ad: The one that we did last week that bombed in research.
Film: The Graduate, Mike Nichols - deffo.
Book: The Secret History, Donna Tartt. But ask me tomorrow and I'll
probably say something else.
Music: Too many to mention. It depends on my mood.
Hotel: Fawlty Towers.
The lowdown: Having had work nominated for Cannes for two successive
years bears testimony to Brooke-Taylor's success during the two years he
has had in sole creative command at BDH\TBWA. Knowledgeable and
self-confident, his task is to reconcile the Manchester agency's
aspirations to be a national shop with sustaining a good base of local
business.
BROOKS, BRIAN JOHN

WPP Group board; 1992-2002, chief resources officer, WWP.
Proudest achievement: My contribution to the evolution of communications
holding companies, from believing that our capital is our scarcest and
most important success factor to understanding that it is talent.
Honours and awards: None.
Professional organisations: Bar Association.
Clubs: Clay, New York City.
Hates: Hypocrisy.
Loves: Reading fiction; films; theatre; travel; running; exercise.

others.
Favourite ad: 'Priceless', Mastercard.
Film: Undisclosed.
Book: Undisclosed.
Music: Undisclosed.
Hotel: Oriental Hotel, Bangkok.
The lowdown: Nicknamed 'the Prince of Darkness', Brooks is one of the
power-brokers in advertising who wields enormous influence with a PR
profile close to zero. Too early to tell whether his switch to IPG has
been a success.
BROOKSBANK, GILES P
Born: Bradford, 14 July 1957.
Family: Single legally, living with my female partner.

Film: Not a film buff ...
Book: The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway.

Hotel: Don't have one ...
The lowdown: An efficient and serious individual, Brooksbank is the
brains behind the Feather Brooksbank offer and his personality is at the
other end of the spectrum from his partner, Stuart Feather.
BROSSARD, HERVE
Current job: Vice-chairman, DDB Worldwide, DDB Communications France.

career relishing being part of teams comprising great individuals,
committed to seeking effective solutions to real problems and sometimes
winning.
Honours and awards: None that I would regard as mine.
Professional organisations: Undisclosed.
Clubs: Solus Club; Thirty Club (honorary secretary); MCC; Reform.
Hates: Humbug.
Loves: Apart from my family, companionship; most sport; reading and the
arts; the business I have been lucky to be part of; decent gin and
tonic.

Favourite ad: 'Operatic', Fiat Strada; 'Black pot', Guinness.
Film: Duel, Steven Spielberg.
Book: Talleyrand, Duff Cooper.
Music: Live at Leeds, 1969, The Who.
Hotel: The converted monastery in Amalfi, name (but not stay) forgotten.

but few do it as effectively as Brown.

The lowdown: Brown's creative savvy is well-known throughout the media
planning ranks as is his ability to enjoy a night out at the club that
he helped to found - Century.
BROWN, MARCUS
Born: Mayday Hospital, Croydon, 7 August 1969.
Family: On June 22 2002, married my partner of eight years.
Lives: Kentish Town, London.
Education: After an uninspiring education at Warwick School, spent an
entirely satisfying time at the University Of Southampton (Business
Economics and Accounting).
Current job: Senior vice-president, business development, Y&R and
Wunderman EMEA.
Salary: Undisclosed.
Career highlights: My first job was working at the Nuffield Theatre in
Southampton as press and marketing officer. It taught me many things
including how to deal with creative temperaments. I've never looked back
since being told off by Martin Jarvis. (You'll remember him from the 70s
sitcom Rings on your Fingers). He stood in his Y-fronts berating me for
not persuading Theatre Royal in Bath to have more of his colour pictures
up in reception. After all, if they had displayed them they would have
sold more seats. Silly me. I then worked for Kellogg for two years in
their sales force. To cut my teeth they asked me to increase
distribution of the recently launched Pop Tarts in VG and Spar shops in
Devon. While others pitied me, I enjoyed spending two months being paid
to visit some of the most beautiful villages in this country. On 23 May
1994, I joined Saatchi & Saatchi. Starting as a graduate trainee, I
worked my way up to become a board account director, working on Head &
Shoulders, Ariel, Visa International, BBC Radio, the National Lottery
and the NSPCC; 1998, they offered me the job of new business director.
It was clearly a high-profile job and success or failure would be for
all to see. Fortunately, we won lots of business including Sony across
Europe, Monster.com, Mr Kipling, Telewest and Bisto; Moved to RKCR/Y&R
in September 2000. While partner, business development, the agency won
the global accounts for Land Rover and Lego, Lloyds TSB, COI
Communications New Deal, Carlsberg and Powergen.
Proudest achievements: Helping the NSPCC to launch its 'full stop'
campaign. My involvement was not merely delivering communications - we
helped the NSPCC to redefine its mission and its role in society as well
as bringing about cultural change within the Society. It took several
years to persuade the NSPCC board of trustees that a campaign to end all
cruelty to all children was indeed the correct approach. I wrote a
30-year plan that would start to bring about changes in legislation that
would further protect children. Much of the momentum behind the
legislative changes against smacking can be traced back to the NSPCC's
campaign.
Honours and awards: No official honours or awards just job satisfaction.
Professional organisations: I sit on the board of trustees for
Groundwork Camden and Islington (Groundwork is the UK's largest urban
regeneration organisation that helps build sustainable communities
through joint environmental action); member, The Marketing Society;
member, IPA (also conceived the idea of the IPA having a new business
group and now sit as deputy chairman).
Clubs: Dining and social clubs are not really my scene. LA Fitness on
Highgate Road.
Hates: Arrogance; conceit. Life is too short.
Loves: My partner; family; friends. Without them I would be nothing.
Admires: Alon Hochdorf, the chief executive of Zenith Media Israel.
There are few more caring, inspiring, motivating or exacting people.
Favourite ad: The 'disco clean' cult 70s Head & Shoulders ad, with an
endline: 'Clean gets the lady.' You can imagine how funny it is. I keep
a copy on my desk and whenever it all gets too much I put the tape in
and watch it. It helps keep work life in perspective.
Film: Not a film but should have been - The Fall and Rise of Reginald
Perrin. Great, super.
Book: Sixty Tips in Sixty Minutes on How to Improve Your Sales
Technique.
Music: If You Go Away, DJ Skymoo remix of Shirley Bassey.
Hotel: La Posta Vecchia on the coast near Rome. It was a perfect
location at the end of our honeymoon.
The lowdown: The effervescent Brown puts clients immediately at ease
with his charm and intelligence. It's impossible not to enjoy his
company on a social level - especially when he's clad in lederhosen.
BUCHANAN, PETER MICHAEL

Favourite ad: 'Gertcha', Courage Best.
Film: Twelve Angry Men, Sidney Lumet.
Book: Almost anything by George Orwell.
Music: Hotel California, The Eagles.
Hotel: The Chateau at Montreiul.
The lowdown: The steady hand on the tiller of COI Communications,
Buchanan surprisingly ruled himself out of contention for the top
position when his then boss, Carol Fisher, quit. Has done much to help
make COI a hungrier, better-structured and more accountable
organisation.
BUDGEN, FRANK
Current job: Director, Gorgeous.
Details: Not supplied.
The lowdown: The shy Budgen shuns the media spotlight which, considering
the number of times he has run the gauntlet at awards shows, must make
his stellar life as one of the most sought-after commercials directors
something of a misery.
