LG is one of a handful of brands in conversation with The Football Association, which is expected to announce its new sponsor in the coming weeks.

The South Korean company, a former shirt sponsor of Fulham Football Club, is looking to build its presence in the sport.

According to sources, The FA is open for negotiation on several points including kick-off times and even the start-date of the competition.

One source said it is ‘unprecedented’ for potential sponsors to hold such sway over the rights-holder.

The talks come as The FA puts out proposals to its board, the FA Cup Committee, and the FA Council about changes to the competitions.

Changes for the 2011-2012 competition are thought to include more fixtures to be decided on penalties, which The FA says will add excitement.

LG was unavailable for comment, while The FA declined to comment.
