LG forced out of West End

Delays in the opening of One Piccadilly as an events venue saw LG Electronics forced to move the European launch of its HD TV range.

Salt Event Consultancy secured the Old Truman Brewery in London鈥檚 Brick Lane as a replacement space and had just two weeks to redesign the two-day event to fit the venue鈥檚 layout.

The theme of the launch from 2-3 May fitted LG鈥檚 鈥榬ed sofa鈥 campaign, which evokes the message that the image is so clear you could be watching the real thing.

Salt Event created lifestyle zones, such as a living room with a fish tank housing a TV displaying fish swimming in a tank, plus a garden with an HD TV screening images of water, flowers and insects.

Supplier Witney UK produced a modular marquee to fit between the pillars in the venue鈥檚 Overhang area and housed separate areas for the kitchen, entrance and green room. Production company Anagram created the stage and audio-visual. Invisible Blue provided furniture hire and draping and Lettice did the catering.

Salt Event director Rachel Waterfield said: 鈥淲e purposefully didn鈥檛 send out invitations with venue details on them just in case One Piccadilly wasn鈥檛 ready. As soon as we were notified, we had only a short time to turn it around, but it was still a great success with 300 guests attending the media party on the final evening.鈥 Number One Piccadilly managing director Phil Pyke was unapologetic about the situation and blamed the venue鈥檚 delay in opening on contradictory advice and local authority red tape.

鈥淭he venue will be ready by the start of July,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e have had a hiccup involving our sprinkler system but it is a problem we are now resolving. 鈥淭wo event bookings have been affected by the delay and have had to seek alternative space.鈥
