Leslie Hill to retire as chairman of ITV network

The position of ITV Network chairman will be discontinued and Donald Emslie, chief executive of SMG Television, will become chairman of ITV Council following Hill鈥檚 retirement. Hill had been chairman of ITV Network since January 1994.

According to Hill: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my eight years in the role but the approach of the new Communications Bill means that this is an appropriate time for me to move on."

He added "My time in ITV has spanned the most significant period of adjustment and consolidation in ITV鈥檚 history, and the recently published draft legislation will mean a further period of intense change and opportunity for the network. ITV continues to have an important role as a commercial public service broadcaster, both nationally and regionally, and I wish it well in the challenging times ahead."

Charles Allen, chairman of Granada said: "I would like to thank Leslie for his commitment and hard work on ITV鈥檚 behalf over the past eight years and to wish him well in the future."
