Leo Burnett hires Grey's Lawson to head McDonald's

LONDON - Leo Burnett has poached Paul Lawson from Grey London to take on the role of group communications director and head up the agency's key McDonald's account in the UK.

Lawson leaves Grey just over a year after joining. He joined Grey London in September 2002 from WCRS as a managing partner to run the global Clearasil account.

He started his career with Allen Brady Marsh in 1985 as a media planner before deciding to shift into account management. He joined Lowe Howard-Spink in 1989 as an account manager working on Ever Ready batteries and Imperial Tobacco.

In 1990, he did his first stint at Grey working with the Procter & Gamble team and being appointed account director. He then took a role at WCRS in 1994, where he worked on clients including Bell's whisky and Trebor Basset and was made client service director and member of the executive committee.

In 2000, Lawson took a year out from his career to study at the London Business School after which he rejoined WCRS in 2001 and left the following year for Great Portland Street.

According to Lawson: "When you're offered the chance to work on one of the world's biggest and most interesting brands, at one of the nicest and most professional agencies in town, you'd be mad to turn it down."

McDonald's latest advertising has featured celebrities Lawrence Dallaglio, the new England rugby captain, and Chris Eubank in spots that highlight the cleanliness and quality of McDonald's. They each use the new global strapline "I'm lovin' it".
