Lenticular first for IPC's NME

The next edition of the NME will carry what it claims is a world first for a weekly magazine – a 3D lenticular image for the entire front cover, celebrating its 50 musical movers and shakers of 2004.

The special edition was created after O2, the solus advertiser for the magazine (out on 24 November), issued a direct brief to the magazine’s publisher IPC Ignite!.

The deal comes on the back of extensive activity carried out between O2 and IPC Ignite!’s Uncut magazine.

The latest round of activity will promote O2’s XDA2 mobile handsets in both the NME and Uncut.

The 3D image of Libertines controversial frontman Pete Doherty marks the magazine’s annual line-up of the great and the good of the music world over the past 12 months.

Neil Robinson, publishing director for NME and Uncut, said: “The Cool List generates big sales and a big reaction among readers and critics alike.

“With this fantastic, attention-grabbing cover we hope there will be even more excitement around the issue.

“Innovation is at the heart of the NME brand and the lenticular cover is a perfect example of two brands working together to continue to break boundaries.”

Other icons making it on to the 2004 list include Eminem, Mike Skinner, of The Streets, and Morrissey.

Chris Pyne, client planning manager at ZenithOptimedia, added: “The NME Cool List offered 02 the perfect vehicle to showcase its new range of phones in a fresh and different way. It’s a great example of advertisers and publishers working together.”
