The Leith Agency has unveiled a new national TV and poster campaign
for the soft drink brand Irn-Bru.
The TV campaign aims to reaffirm the drink's position as 'the
indescribable soft drink', and will be supported by a poster campaign
breaking in July.
The first spot, 'electric lady', opens on a sweet old lady who is
travelling to her local shops on a motorised cart. However, when she
arrives, she unexpectedly pulls down a balaclava, enters the shop and
raids its supply of Irn-Bru before being apprehended by the police.
'Shower' features a mother and son as partners in crime in a bid to
separate his young friends from their beloved cans of Irn-Bru. The son's
friends are granted a sneaky peek at his mother in the shower, in return
for handing over their cans as payment.
'Parrot' features a young couple sharing a romantic moment that is
somewhat marred when the girl's parrot spills the beans about her other
relationships, all because she has ignored his request for some of her
Irn-Bru.
'Electric lady' was written and art directed by Chris Landy and Lee
Hempstock.
'Shower' was written by Tony Durston and art directed by Ash Ward.
'Parrot' was written and art directed by Alex Flint and Charles
Harris.
The campaign was directed by Martin Wedderburn through Mallinson
Television Productions. Media planning and buying is through CIA
Media.
Emma Jardine, an account director at Leith, said: 'The ads will live up
to people's expectations of Irn-Bru's continuously humorous campaign.'
