Despite recent concern that Remembrance Day might be losing its significance for younger generations that cannot remember the wars, the results of the survey are encouraging.
Out of a sample of 1203 people, 98% knew what the poppy stands for when asked the open response question. Of those, most associated it directly with the Day of Remembrance, war veterans, and the Royal British Legion itself.
This year's Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal has attracted controversy over arms manufacturer BAE Systems' sponsorship. ±±¾©Èü³µpk10 Against the Arms Trade last week condemned BAE, comparing it to "King Herod sponsoring a special day reserved to prevent child cruelty".
