Lamb leaves JWT London for strategic post in New York

J. Walter Thompson's global business director on its De Beers

account, David Lamb, is leaving its London office for New York.

Lamb will take on a senior planning role, working closely with Bob

Jeffrey, the president of JWT North America.

"I am going to look at the agencies strategic product - account planning

and intellectual output," Lamb said.

Lamb quit Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO as board account director on its

Sainsbury's business in 1995 and joined JWT to run its prestigious

global De Beers account. Lamb had joined AMV from JWT less than two

years previously to run the Sainsbury's account alongside the deputy

chairman, Adrian Vickers.

Lamb's appointment to the De Beers account (since January named the

Diamond Trading Company), came two months after JWT landed the task,

which consolidated the gem and diamond giant's global account with the

agency. The business is thought to be worth in excess of pounds 35

million.

Carol Potter will replace Lamb as the global business director on the

Diamond Trading Company (DTC) account.

She has been groomed to replace Lamb since last year. "I am really

looking forward to being responsible for DTC," Potter said. "It's an

interesting reflection on the new JWT worldwide management. This has

been boldly planned."

Her promotion also means that she will be the first woman to sit on the

agency's worldwide executive group.

Lamb was promoted to the London board in 1990 with six other colleagues,

including creative director Jasper Shelbourne, to replace directors who

left to join the then recently established JWT Europe office.

Lamb's career started in 1984 as a graduate trainee at JWT London. In

1986, he moved to JWT Toronto, where he worked as an account supervisor

on Lever Brothers. He returned to JWT London in 1987, eventually

becoming director-in-charge on the entire Kellogg's business.
