Robinson will be responsible for raising the magazine’s profile and selling partnerships and sponsorships to agencies.

She will work alongside The Lady’s editor Rachel Johnson and will report into publisher Ben Budworth.

Prior to joining Spitfire, Robinson was sales director at Trafficlink, the supplier of traffic and travel data. She was also sponsorship director at Emap for three years and helped launch The Daily Express’s Saturday magazine in 1993.

The £1.80 weekly title, which revamped just before the arrival of Johnson as editor last year, was the subject of a Channel 4 documentary last week called 'The Lady and the Revamp'.

The title's circulation in the second half of 2009 was 28,782 copies, up 9.3% year on year, and its owners, the Budworth family, have set a target of 40,000 by the end of this year.

Ben Budworth said: "With Helen steering sales and Rachel, editorial, no one can say The Lady is not a formidable force within the women’s weekly market sector again.’

The Budworths are reported to be interested in acquiring Reader's Digest UK, which is currently in administration. Reader's Digest has a monthly circulation of 602,609, down 7.7% year on year.
