Lads mags turn up the heat for October

LONDON - Competition is hotting up in the men's magazine sector as Emap-owned lads mag FHM launches a campaign to search for Britain's 100 sexiest non-celebrity women in the same month that Loaded is publishing with five different covers.

The October issue of FHM, which will publish the top 100 nominated "High Street Honeys" will go head-to-head with IPC Media's Loaded, which yesterday revealed its October issue is to publish with a different cover girl for each of the five regions in the British Isles.

The FHM promotion has been backed up by radio advertising on Emap stations Kiss and the Big City network to encourage readers to nominate people they know for the competition.

It received editorial coverage in Emap-owned titles New Woman and Heat, along with promotions in Max Power, Revs and Performance Bikes. It also made it into the pages of the News of the World.

FHM has also toured the country in the FHM Honey bus visiting big cities and handing out more than 125,000 fliers.

The 100 nominees are to be published in the October edition of FHM, out this week. Readers will then be asked to vote by phone and online for their favourite High Street Honey.

James Carter, publishing director of FHM, said: "Earlier this year, we committed to rejuvenating the men's market through a mix of entirely new content and promotions, along with a fresh approach to what we know men will always love. FHM's High Street Honeys scores in every area for us and builds on the great success we have already seen this year."
