Ladbrokes profits drop as high-rollers walk away

According to Ladbrokes chief executive Chris Bell, the company has been hit by the number of £10,000-plus bets halved in 2008.

Last year, the total value of bets greater than £10,000 accounted for £80m in takings.

Despite the profits drop, Ladbrokes' high-street betting shops continued to perform well, while profits from its gaming machines were up 15% year on year.
