Labour attacks Tory spending cuts with latest film pastiche

Labour is stepping up its attack on the Tories by unveiling another

Hollywood-style poster, which shows William Hague and Michael Portillo

as deep sea divers.

Echoing Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the ad is headed

"pounds 20 billion cuts under the Tories", the amount by which Labour

claims the Opposition would reduce public spending.

It is the fourth Labour poster of the general election campaign to use a

cinematic theme to attack Tory economic policies. The others, created by

TBWA/London, depict mock film titles, including "The Repossessed",

"Towering Interest Rates" and "Economic Disaster II".

The Tories also deployed a poster to exploit Labour's tax problems,

showing a sniper's crosshairs pointing at a crowd and asking: "Are you

one of Labour's targets?"

But the Tories' campaign was hindered when Hague had to deny press

reports of a rift between the party and its agency Yellow M. The agency

was said to have wanted the Tories to pitch for floating voters.
