Kraft to expand Health4Schools community care scheme

LONDON - Kraft Foods is to expand its 'Health4Schools' initiative to 100 schools by 2007.

The scheme, launched by Kraft in 24 Gloucestershire schools in September 2004, sees the company provide the equivalent of £5000 in funding to each establishment to educate pupils about healthy eating.

The investment is used to fund a range of activities, which are backed by unbranded literature and a website. These range from breakfast clubs to vegetable-growing.

'Health4Schools' is part of Kraft's global community care programme and is a key focus in the UK, according to a company spokesman. It operates as a partnership between Kraft, Business in the Community and Gloucestershire County Council.

Earlier this month Kraft, which owns the Dairylea brand, was one of five major food companies that pledged to put labels containing information on fat, sugar and salt content on the front of packs.
