He replaces current chief executive and Big Fuel founder, Avi Savar, who remains with the agency to focus on content development and strategy.
Bond joins Big Fuel following a year of strong growth that it hopes to surpass in 2011 as it pursues a global growth strategy and seeks outside investment.
As part of that strategy, Big Fuel, whose clients include General Motors, McDonalds and Budweiser, has retained New York-based investment bank The Jordan, Edmiston Group to help raise capital.
Bond's move into digital comes after a 30-year plus career in advertising. He co-founded Kirshenbaum Bond in the late 1980s, which grew to become one of the world's best known independent ad agencies.
Bond departed Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal & Partners, as it is now known, in February 2010, and has spent the past year as advisor and investor to several new media firms including Klout, Data Xu and Crimson Hexagon.
Bond said: "I immediately saw the opportunity to take Big Fuel to the global stage and make it the leading social media agency brand worldwide.
"I have worked over the past year to develop a new agency model that takes advantage of today's technology and media landscape.
"I met with more than 200 companies during this time, narrowing my focus and formulating the right approach. Putting social media at the centre of it all is the right strategy, one that Big Fuel embodies.
"With its top talent, unparalleled content and unique social distribution model, Big Fuel is perfectly positioned as the base of a new global agency network."
Savar said: "I will ensure Big Fuel's mission will always be about telling great stories and helping brands connect with audiences in social media through authentic and engaging content.
"I will continue to push leading-edge thinking and ensure the company maintains the highest standards of creativity, credibility and innovation."
