The ad features hand-drawn and CGI animations, with new scenes and characters from famous films created for BSkyB's Sky Movies in collaboration with Animal Logic, Disney, Sony Pictures Television and Warner Brothers.
The spot begins with a family of four and their dog being invited by The Muppets' Kermit the Frog to "Step into the adventure" with Sky Movies.
The family then find themselves in the middle of The Muppets’ theatre and in the street with Spider-Man. They also take a sleigh-ride through the icy landscape from Frozen and are transformed into Lego characters.
The 60-second spot will premiere on ITV during The X Factor on Saturday. It was created by WCRS’ Dave Cornmell and Jane Briers and directed by Ivan Bird through Rattling Stick.
A team of more than 130 artists, animators, crew, performers and producers worked on the ad in film studios in California, New York, Sydney and London.
From early December, visitors to SkyMovies.com will be able to create pictures of themselves, family and friends with characters from the four films featured in the ad. These can be shared online.
Ian Lewis, the director of Sky Movies, said: "Enjoying movies with the family is a big part of Christmas so we decided to bring some of them to life this year.
"We are very proud that Disney, Warner Bros and Sony have allowed us to work with their creative talent to create special scenes with these iconic characters for our new Christmas ad campaign."
Leon Jaume, the executive creative director at WCRS, said: "Contrary to popular wisdom, if you want a good Christmas ad, try working with not only children and animals, but also animated snowmen, electrified baddies, Lego superheroes and flying Muppets."
The four films featured in the ad will premiere on Sky Movies throughout the Christmas period. The Lego Movie will be aired on Christmas Eve, Frozen on Christmas Day and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on New Year’s Day. Muppets Most Wanted will be shown on 19 December.
