The Kent Messenger Group has revamped one of its free newspapers -
the Thanet Extra - doubling the paper's pagination and the size of its
advertising sections.
The newspaper circulates to more than 57,000 homes around Thanet, which
is a competitive area for regional newspapers.
The Extra has increased pagination from 44 to 80 and expanded the number
of editorial pages, with the aim of making the paper look like a
paid-for title. The number of property, retail, motors and jobs ad pages
has also risen.
At the same time, the group as a whole - which publishes 30 paid-for
newspapers in Kent as well as the free Extra series - has recorded its
best month ever in terms of advertising revenue growth.
Every advertising category is up on the same period in 2000, and total
revenues are up 11 per cent year on year.
