Kelly's ice cream launches first UK TV ad in Cornish

Kelly's of Cornwall has created the UK's first TV ad spoken entirely in Cornish as an homage to the ice cream brand's heritage.

To promote its new parlour range of take-home ice cream, Isobel has created a 30-second spot in which a Cornish ice-cream seller stands in a field and addresses the viewer in Cornwall’s native tongue.

Apart from occasional English words, the ice-cream seller enthusiastically talks about the brand's parlour range, entirely in Cornish, before a voiceover (in English) says: "Kelly's: Cornish for ice cream".

Isobel, which picked up the Kelly’s account earlier this year, shot the ad in Millbrook, Cornwall, and worked with a team of experts from The Cornish Language Partnership to ensure the script was linguistically accurate.

The ad will air on Monday (23 May) during Britain’s Got Talent on ITV at 8.15pm and Food Unwrapped on Channel 4 at 8.30pm. The work will run for six weeks.

Isobel’s Ben Stump and Simon Findlater created the ad, which was directed by Alex Turner through Infinity. The7stars handled the media.

Charlotte Hambling, the UK head of marketing at Kelly's owner, R&R Ice Cream, said: "Our new ad shows people a truly Cornish experience – Isobel has created a spot that shows off our brand, our ice cream, and the Cornish culture to great effect."

For the benefit of those who don't speak Cornish, here is the English translation:

There’s a new range of Kelly’s Cornish ice cream available that is as tasty as.

You’ll find all our parlour favourites, including, Honeycomb Crunch, Praline Caramel and even Berry Eton Mess.

It’s all made with clotted cream, (from local cows).

And what’s more, they’re in your local supermarket, meaning you can take home six new parlour flavours! (All I can say is) … geddon!
