Kean leaves Saatchis as Droga takes top job

Adam Kean has left Saatchi & Saatchi a week after the arrival of

the agency’s new executive creative director, Dave Droga.

Droga’s appointment would have meant a demotion for Kean, who headed

Saatchis’ creative department alongside John Pallant, his joint

executive creative director.

Pallant will stay at Saatchis with the new title of creative

director.

Kean joined Saatchis in 1987 on a placement after a stint as a freelance

copy-writer. He was made joint creative director in 1995 amid the

management exodus that followed the departure of Maurice Saatchi, and he

and Pallant were promoted to executive creative directors last

October.

’Once I heard about Dave it took me about one second to decide to go,’

said Kean. ’But I’ve got lots of very good friends at the agency and I

didn’t want to leave anyone in the lurch.

’I am in no rush to make a decision about what to do next,’ he said,

adding that he may consider options outside advertising.

Saatchis offered Kean the post of regional creative director of Saatchi

& Saatchi Asia after Droga’s London appointment, but he wanted to stay

in London and rejected the offer.

Adam Crozier, joint chief executive of Saatchis, said: ’I am really

proud of all the work we did under Adam. I will be very sad to lose him

- he’s one of my favourite people in advertising.’

Kean’s partner, Alex Taylor, will stay at the agency as creative

director and is looking for a new partner. Matt Ryan will also stay on

as creative director.

Kean has five D&AD pencils to his credit, including three for the Army

work for the Central Office of Information, which also won a

commendation at the last ±±¾©Èü³µpk10 Poster Awards.

He also worked on the long-running ’performing cows’ campaign for Anchor

Butter and has produced work for Le Creuset and Habitat.
