Winlet's spot is set in Camden Market in London. It reveals her meandering through stalls offering everything from vintage books, fresh fruit and children's toys.
As she peruses the stalls, mementos catch her eye that remind her of the many lives she has led through the multitude of characters she has played on the silver screen. Winslet then reflects on the incredible journey she has taken in film and the most important role she will ever play -- herself.
"When approached by American Express to participate in the campaign, I was open to the opportunity because I have always had a great experience as a card member. Furthermore, I have enjoyed their engaging campaigns over the years and I'm pleased to now be a part of it," Winslet said.
The campaign breaks this week in the US with a 60-second execution. It will be backed by a print campaign shot by the famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.
De Niro's spot was criticised because it used footage of Ground Zero, and American Express was accused of exploiting the 9/11 tragedy for the ad. The actor was also criticised for selling out by appearing in the ad, which was directed by Martin Scorsese.
The comedienne Ellen DeGeneres has also appeared in the current campaign for American Express. Another famous sitcom star, Jerry Seinfeld, was part of a previous campaign for the credit card company, also starring Superman.
John Hayes, chief marketing officer of American Express, said: "'The 'My life. My card.' campaign profiles exceptional card members, and we believe Kate Winslet, whose irrefutable talent has been enjoyed by millions of fans around the world, makes a compelling addition to the individuals who have partnered with American Express for this effort."
