JWT expands Chinese offering with promotional buy-in

LONDON - WPP Group-owned JWT has acquired a majority share in promotional and merchandising firm Always in Shanghai, to add to the company's expanding interests in the Chinese market.

The acquisition will give JWT a 65% share in the firm, a joint venture between Shanghai Always Marketing Services and Shanghai Power Force Marketing Services.

The purchase follows a slew of business ventures in China by WPP that include South China Market Research, Oracle, Newsun International and Media Care Communications among others.

Always employs 250 people and has offices in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Shenzhen and more than 20 other locations throughout China.

It had revenues of 拢5.8m for the year ending December 2004 with net assets of 拢330,000.

Clients include Unilever, Visa, Colgate, UT Starcom, McCormick, Pepsi Food, Exxon Mobile and Cadbury.

WPP says this acquisition continues its strategy of developing its networks in fast growing markets and sectors.
