Debrett's, the company known for its guide to the aristocracy and etiquette, worked in association with The Sunday Times to compile the list of the most influential people, which is based on "exhaustive research".
Also in the Top 500, listed in the broadcasting category are: Adam Crozier, ITV's chief executive; Richard Desmond, Channel 5's chairman; Lord Patten, the BBC Trust’s chairman; and Lord Hall, the BBC director general.
Elisabeth Murdoch, the founder and chairman of Shine, which she sold to News Corporation in 2011, in also in the list, as is David Abraham, the Channel 4 chief executive and Jeremy Darroch, the BSkyB chief executive.
On the client-side, Katie Vanneck-Smith, News UK's chief marketing officer, makes the list for "masterminding the company's paid content strategy". David Pemsel, the Guardian's recently promoted deputy chief executive, is also featured.
