The redesign is intended to make the site easier to use and search. At a seminar detailing the publisher’s digital strategy last week, Alex Green, Johnston Press’s director of digital publishing explained that, since relaunching JobsToday’s sister website, PropertyToday in April, the classified site had doubled its number of page impressions per month. The publisher has also recently relaunched its MotorsToday site.
Tim Bowdler, chief executive officer of Johnston Press, last week announced that the publisher is set to merge the print and online operations of some of its biggest titles across the UK and create 70 "digital news hubs".
The project has already been piloted at the Preston-based Lancashire Evening Post which has meant a reorganisation of the newsroom so journalists can file video reports for streaming on the newspaper's website. The reorganised news editing operation also co-ordinates rolling news coverage across the internet, mobile phone and print.
