Johnston Press closes Perth freesheet

Johnston Press has closed the Perth Herald & Post just 18 months after the weekly free newspaper launched.

A statement released by the company confirmed the closure and said affected employees would be consulted about alternative roles within the company.

The newspaper had been part of The Scotsman Publications Limited, which Johnston Press bought in a £160m deal last year.

The sale saw the transfer of the entire Scotsman portfolio including The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday, the Edinburgh Evening News, and the Edinburgh Herald & Post, as well as the website properties for the group.

This is the first title within the Scotsman's portfolio to close as part of a review of the company.

Since Johnston acquired the Scottish titles, independent sales house Mediaforce has taken over sales for The Scotsman.

Its sister company, Workforce, was appointed to handle The Scotsman's national recruitment business.
