Johnston Press appoints director of digital publishing

LONDON - Johnston Press, owner of The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, has named Alex Green as its director of digital publishing.

Green, who has previously worked at News International as directory of strategy, Broadsystem as managing director, and Virgin Group in a business development role, will join Johnston Press on April 10. His responsibilities will include directing the digital publishing strategy across the group.

When Johnston unveiled its 2005 results last week, it revealed that online revenues had increased by 32% to £8.3m, producing a contribution to profit of £5.8m. All the communities the company serves now have local websites available to them.

Tim Bowdler, chief executive of Johnston Press, said: "Alex brings a wealth of experience to Johnston Press. His appointment underlines our commitment to the rapid development and growth of our digital publishing activities."

Green said: "Johnston Press has already built a strong locally focused online presence. I look forward to playing my part in making the group a leading publisher of digital content in the market it serves."

Johnston Press has recently been linked with the Daily Mail & General Trust about acquiring some of its Scottish titles, including the Aberdeen Press & Journal.
