Carl Johnson has unexpectedly abandoned plans to move to Australia

and will stay on as managing director when Simons Palmer Clemmow Johnson

merges with TBWA.

The creative and account handling departments will both report to

Johnson, who will be responsible for the internal, day-to-day running of

the merged agency.

The pounds 15 million deal between Simons Palmer and TBWA, an Omnicom

subsidiary, is expected to be finalised by the end of this month,

although the new name - and which agency gets top billing - has still to

be agreed.

Johnson commented: ’I am staying on to run the most exciting agency in

London.’

His investment and personal involvement in the Mission, a film-making

and programming company, along with a reluctance to uproot his family

from the UK, are factors that have contributed to Johnson’s decision to

stay in London.
