Times Newspapers has promoted classified ad director John Trickett

to group advertisement director.

The position had been vacant since Camilla Rhodes was elevated to

managing director last summer. Display ad director Gary Savage will

assume the role of deputy group ad director.

A head of classified sales is being sought among both internal and

external candidates. Trickett said he had not yet had time to appraise

the display situation but added there was no position open at this

time.

Trickett, who joined Times Newspapers in 1998, began his career as a

sales executive at News Group Newspapers in 1978. He spent 14 years at

the Evening Standard - with a brief interval at the Racing Post - where

he rose to classified ad director.

Savage has been at News International since 1987 and joined The Times in

February last year from News Group Newspapers.
