Robson will be the first event services supplier to take the helm at the association, when the current incumbent, Steve Barratt, steps down at the end of this year.
Barratt commented: "I am delighted that John has been elected to this position. He will bring new perspective to the association, while his close relationship with all parts of the industry will allow him to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience.
