DMGT today announced that its newspaper division, Associated Newspapers, had completed the sale, after an employee consultation process. The sale was first officially confirmed by DMGT on 21 January.

It is understood that the redundancies will hit the Standard's editorial department and will be identified following the arrival of former Tatler Geordie Greig as editor next Monday (2 February).

Cut-backs at the Standard's commercial operations have not been ruled out, but are unlikely to be of a similar level to editorial cuts, according to a source.

A spokesperson for Alexander Lebedev declined to comment on planned job cuts.
