Jeffrey takes top post at JWT North America

Peter Schweitzer, the president and chief executive of J. Walter

Thompson, has named Bob Jeffrey as the president of JWT North America.

The appointment lines Jeffrey up as 64-year-old Schweitzer's

successor.

The North American role was held by Schweitzer before his promotion in

January to worldwide chief executive following the departure of Chris

Jones.

Jeffrey, who was the president of the network's New York office, will

now oversee the North American region and guide business development

efforts.

He will retain responsibility for JWT New York where he will remain

based.

Jeffrey, 47, has served as president of JWT New York since April

1998.

Jeffrey was the managing director of the San Francisco office of Lowe &

Partners for two years. Before this, he was the founder and president of

Goldsmith/ Jeffrey, a creative boutique acquired by Lowe in 1996.

'Bob Jeffrey has compiled a superlative record of growth and success at

JWT New York, building one of the strongest management teams in the

industry while expanding our service offerings in digital branding and

content development. I'm confident he will bring the same energy and

innovation to his new post,' Schweitzer said.

JWT North America comprises seven principal offices and 25 service

offices across the US and Canada. Billings grew by 20 per cent in 2000

to top dollars 4.7 billion and JWT currently ranks as the second-largest

advertising network in the US.

Mary Baglivo remains the chief operating officer of JWT North America

and the global business director on the Pfizer account.

The news coincides with the management shake-up in JWT's London office

with the arrival at the start of this month of the new chief executive,

Simon Bolton, from FCB San Francisco.
