
In its annual report, JD Sports' revealed that sales rose 13% from £592m to £670m for the 52 weeks ending 31 January 2009; the company's pre-tax profits also rose, by 9%.
Peter Cowgill, executive chairman of JD Sports, said that part of the growth was due to its store development programme, which started in 2007. The company has opened 16 new JD and 2 Size stores and refurbished 32 existing outlets.
Cowgill added that better stock management, coming from investment in merchandise planning systems and staff, continued to benefit the sports retailer.
