The site is part of a multimedia campaign booked directly by the airline that will include other statement sites at UK airports, including Heathrow, and a TV ad featuring actor Kevin Costner.

Osman Battal, director of Turkish Airlines, called it "a perfect opportunity" for the airline to "communicate with its customers" and raise "awareness" of the quality of Turkish Airlines' service and the destinations it offers.

Janice Fernandes, business development director at JCDecaux Airport, said Stansted has seen a 13% increase in passenger numbers over the past five years, which cemented the welcome site as an important addition to JCDecaux's airport portfolio.

A JCDecaux spokesman said the 13m x 3m welcome site delivers an annual audience of 23.8 million passengers and has an audience profile that is 82% ABC1.
