JCDecaux buys out German joint venture

LONDON - JCDecaux, the outdoor advertising giant, has boosted its German presence by buying the 50% stake in the KlettDecaux joint venture it did not already own from the Klett family.

JCDecaux bought into the Klett company 10 years ago. The venture has long-term outdoor advertising equipment contracts in Stuttgart and Nuremberg.

The company said it wants to develop its portfolio of existing business to establish a national advertising network in Germany, which it describes as Europe's biggest media market.

Jean-Francois Decaux, co-chief executive of JCDecaux, said: "This move is in line with our strategy of increasing market share in Germany, where the outdoor communications business is still very fragmented."

The move follows JCDecaux's decision in December to buy an 11.1% stake in Berlin-based privately owned German street furniture firm Wall AG.
