Jazz FM appoints Manning Gottlieb to £5m relaunch

LONDON - Jazz FM has appointed Manning Gottlieb OMD to its £5m media buying account over the next three years, following a competitive pitch.

The agency beat ZenithOptimedia and Brilliant to the work, which was previously held by the Carat-owned Feathers Brookbank.

Peter Thomson, a director at Manning Gottlieb OMD, said: "It's always satisfying to be appointed by a client that gets exposure to so many media agencies, and which is so knowledgeable about our sector."

Manning Gottlieb OMD will plan and buy media for the radio station's through-the-line relaunch campaign, which is set to go live in the spring.

The relaunch of the station follows its acquistion by Guardian Media Group for £44.5m in June. GMG aims to reposition Jazz FM and broaden its appeal.

"Jazz FM was looking for an agency to persuade non-listeners to re-evaluate the brand," Thomson said.

The £2m creative work for the relaunch was awarded to Kitcatt Nohr Alexander Shaw in January. This will include corporate identity, a new strategy and through-the-line creative. The new-look station is expected to lose its chameleon logo, which has been part of its identity for the last five years.

Since GMG took over, Jazz FM has appointed a raft of new presenters including jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis.
