'Jamie's Fowl Dinners', the TV chef's attempt to bring the reality of chicken farming into the public consciousness, was watched by an average 3.8m viewers in its 9-10.30pm slot, earning Channel 4 15.7% of the audience.
It was beaten by BBC One's detective series 'New Tricks' which brought in 4.6m viewers at 9-10pm and was followed by 4.3m for the 'Ten O'clock News'.
But the figures showed a setback for ITV1's new Friday line-up, although its addition of a second episode of 'Coronation Street' delivered in the early evening. The first episode at 7.30-8pm was watched by 10.6m and the second at 8.30-9pm was watched by 9.9m.
However, at 9-10pm the second instalment of the 'Moving Wallpaper/Echo Beach' combination lost more than a fifth of the 5m audience it had attracted on Thursday night.
'Moving Wallpaper', the comedy drama about the writers and producers of 'Echo Beach', was watched by 3.8m at 9-9.30pm, equalling Channel 4's 15.7% share.
For 'Echo Beach' in the following half-hour this dropped to 3.5m and 14.1%.
'Al Murray's Happy Hour', moved from Saturday, earned ITV1 3m viewers and a 14.3% share. Its first half lost out to the end of 'Jamie's Fowl Dinners' and its second to the start of rival BBC One talk show 'Friday Night With Jonathan Ross', which won its slot with 4.4m viewers.
