Ivan Lewis has been appointed shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport.
Lewis has been an MP since 1997 and held various roles in the last government, latterly as minister of state for foreign and commonwealth affairs. He has no previous media experience.
Before becoming an MP Lewis worked in the voluntary sector for Outreach, Contact Community Group and was latterly chief executive of the Manchester Jewish Federation.
Shadow minister for the Cabinet Office, which has responsibility for the Central Office of Information, is Liam Byrne, while former Olympics minister Tessa Jowell has been named shadow minister for the Olympics.
Labour's last culture secretary, Ben Bradshaw, who backed David Miliband, the failed leadership candidate, did not get a job in the shadow cabinet.
However, Andy Burnham, the culture secretary between January 2008 and January 2009 who also ran for the Party leadership, is shadow secretary of state for education and election coordinator.
Former heath and home secretary Alan Johnson has been appointed shadow chancellor of the exchequer, beating Ed Balls and his wife Yvette Cooper.
Ed Miliband, leader of the Labour Party, said: "Together, this new generation of Labour will work together to reject the pessimism of this coalition government as we set out our vision of what Britain can achieve.
"Our values are those of the British people, and this shadow cabinet will ensure that the hopes and concerns of working families are at the heart of our offer to the country."
