ITV's Fairbairn named as Freesat chairman

LONDON - Freesat, the newly launched free-to-air digital satellite TV service, has appointed ITV's director of group development and strategy Carolyn Fairbairn as its new chairman.

ITV's Fairbairn named as Freesat chairman

Fairbairn joined ITV as director of group development and strategy in March 2007. She has also worked at the BBC as director of strategy and distribution, and was one of the principal architects of Freeview.

The current Freesat chairman, Tim Davie, is to stand down from his role at the service in September, following his recent appointment as the BBC's director of audio and music.

As well as being Freesat chairman, Davie is currently the BBC's director of marketing, communications and audiences.

The chairmanship of Freesat will alternate between ITV and the BBC annually. This is the first time that ITV has taken up the post.

In addition, Richard Lindsay-Davies, commercial development director at Freesat is to leave at the beginning of October, to return to his role as director general at the Digital Television Group. His successor has yet to be recruited.
