The new channel launched at 9pm with the previously unseen detective drama 'Rebus', which featured 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' star John Hannah. The two-hour show managed an impressive 492,000 viewers, peaking at 555,000, or a 3.7% and 3.9% share respectively.
Living TV's 'Most Haunted Live at Halloween' was the most watched show with 704,000 viewers or 6.3% over three hours.
In comparison, Sky One's documentary on Ewan McGregor's motorbiking trip 'Long Way Round' secured 275,000 viewers or 1.8% in the coveted 9pm to 10pm slot, while 'Toughest Villages in Britain' at 10pm managed 340,000.
BBC Three was left out in the cold with documentary 'The Porn King and the President' receiving just 91,000 viewers.
US teen drama 'The OC' at 9pm on E4 attracted 179,000 viewers and 66,000 stayed at 10pm to watch Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie in 'The Simple Life 2'.
Later in the evening, ITV3's US crime drama 'Hack', about an ex-policeman turned taxi driver, did not fare as well as 'Rebus', losing 300,000 viewers to settle at 193,000 or 3.1% between 11pm and midnight.
However, it did manage to beat Sky One's 'Deadwood', which could only muster 46,000 or 0.7%.
Then from midnight to 2am, the 1967 Sidney Poitier thriller 'In the Heat of the Night' garnered 48,000 or 2.6%, while 'Jane Goldman Investigates' on Living TV led the way with 90,000 viewers or 3.5%.
ITV3's overall multichannel viewing share between 9pm and 2am was a healthy 3.5%.
