ITV1 increases crucial 16-34 audience share

LONDON - ITV1 made a strong start to the year with an increase in peaktime audience during January.

The broadcaster credited high viewing figures for programmes including 'Coronation Street', 'Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway' and 'Footballers Wives' for a 1.2% increase in peaktime share.

ITV1's peaktime share for January was 33.3%, up from 32.1% in January 2002. Channel 4 also saw an increase in peaktime share from 8% to 8.8%. BBC1 and multichannel saw falls in their peaktime shares.

Impacts against the main audiences were up for ITV1. Its highest increase, of 17.5%, came in the crucial 16- to 34-year-old age range.
