ITV wins two-year UEFA rights deal

ITV has announced a string of programming deals, including exclusive right to the final stages of the UEFA Cup for the next two seasons.

The football deal comes despite ITV recently threatening not to bid for major sporting rights, after a disappointing reaction from advertisers to the World Cup in Germany.
It covers the quarter final stages onwards of the competition for the 2006/7 and 2008/9 seasons.
鈥淭his is exactly the sort of top flight event that ITV is committed to,鈥 said Simon Shaps, director of television.
ITV already has joint rights with BSkyB for the UEFA Champions League.
In other programming announcements, ITV has announced a new primetime chat show for comedian Al Murray and a debut on ITV1 for a new show based on Ricky Gervais鈥 illustrated book series Flanimals.
