The show, working-titled 'The Paul O'Grady Show', will feature celebrity interviews and discussions about the previous night's TV mixed with gags from O'Grady.
It will air live on weeknights between 5pm and 6pm from October and aims to take on Channel 4's 'Richard and Judy', which regularly secures exclusive big-name interviews with the likes of Bill Clinton and Rebecca Loos. This week Channel 4 announced the show had secured an interview with Cherie Blair.
ITV's 5pm slot has been a problem for ITV this year with repeats of 'Heartbeat' and lifestyle show 'Building the Dream' failing to pull in viewers.
Steven Andrew, ITV controller of daytime, said: "The show will wake up the early-evening slot by bringing primetime to teatime."
O'Grady's television outings include 'Blankety Blank' and stints hosting on ITV daytime shows 'Des and Mel' and 'This Morning'.
