ITV sells Carlton Screen Advertising's Irish operation

LONDON - Carlton Screen Advertising's Ireland operation has been sold to Irish media executive Dermot Hanrahan for an undisclosed sum, following an 18-month disposal programme.

The UK arm of the ITV-owned cinema sales house was sold in July 2008 to Digital Cinema Media, a joint venture between Cineworld and Odeon Cinemas, for £500,000.

Today's news takes care of the last remnants of CSA, which were previously managed by the same team that looked after the business's UK operations.

Hanrahan, who is chief executive of online ad sales business Electric Media and executive chairman of Entertainment.ie, has set up a new company, Mepro Ltd, to make the purchase.

The company will continue to operate under the CSA name, after a two-year licensing deal was struck with ITV, and all 15 staff in the Irish office, headed by Eithne Billington, will remain with the company.

Competition issues prevented DCM from buying the Dublin-based division of CSA last summer. CSA's managing director Trevor Davies and sales director Adam Mills stayed with ITV to oversee the disposal.

Sales figures for the Irish cinema industry are monitored separately from those in the UK. More than 1.5 million tickets were sold at the box office in the Republic of Ireland in February, an increase of 8.2% year on year.
