- The Independent Television Commission has issued a formal directive prohibiting all digital television licensees from "denigrating" their rivals in their advertising.
The new ruling, which is similar to one which already exists with regard to cable and satellite licensees, also prohibits the provision of misleading information about competing services.
Peter Rogers, the ITC chief executive, said: "No digital television provider should mislead or denigrate a rival platform to prospective subscribers. The only outcome of this approach would be to discourage viewers from taking up digital services. That is in no-one's interest."
