Associated Newspapers has launched a shake-up of its senior

management, the first since Jonathan Harmsworth became chairman of the group following the death of his father, Viscount Rothermere, in

September.

Kevin Beatty, managing director of the Mail on Sunday, has filled the

vacant position of managing director at the Evening Standard, following

Harmsworth’s promotion. Mike Ironside, advertising director of the Daily

Mail, is to be managing director of the Mail on Sunday, while John Teal,

sales controller on the Daily Mail, has been made acting advertising

director.

Simon Barnes, ad director on the Daily Mail, will become head of

Associated Newspapers’ contract publishing company, Contract Publishing, which launched earlier this year. Sally de la Bedoyere, the

advertisement sales controller on the Mail on Sunday, will take the

position of ad director.

Ironside commented: ’I’m really pleased to be part of the team and I’m

sure we can all make a significant difference to the performance of the

³Ù¾±³Ù±ô±ð.’

The Mail on Sunday’s circulation stood at 2,396,598 in October, down

just under 1 per cent month on month, but representing a healthy 3.9 per cent rise in six-monthly year-on-year sales. Editorially, the newspaper has seen upheaval following the sudden exit of the Mail on Sunday editor, Jonathan Holborow, and the appointment of Peter Wright in September.

Murdoch MacLennan, the managing director of Associated Newspapers, said: "These appointments will strengthen our management team as we enter a period of expansion for Associated Newspapers.’
