According to the Irish Independent, the rules of the Children's Advertising Code will restrict what products celebrities can advertise but will not introduce a blanket ban.
The code is being drawn up by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, and will also see a ban being placed on any Christmas-related advertising appearing before November 1. The new laws would only affect Irish television and radio stations.
The BCI has been consulting the public about concerns, including children. It said that children had particularly raised the issue of factual presentation in advertising, expressing their concerns that sometimes reality did not match what was advertised on the screen.
The news came as British government body the Food Standards Agency finalised its recommendations on food promotion to children in the UK, calling on celebrities to promote healthier food choices.
