Toshiba's role as one of the IRB tournament's sponsors will be to supply a range of electrical products including audio-visual equipment, air conditioning systems and mobile phones.
Dr Syd Millar, IRB chairman, said: "The appointment of a world leader in the electronics field further underlines the enormous attraction and prestige of the tournament in the global sporting calendar."
Toshiba has sponsored international sporting tournaments before, including the 2006 Fifa World Cup, and has strong links to rugby in Japan, where it backs the Brave Lupus team.
Takahiro Ishii, president and chief executive officer of Toshiba Europe, said: "Toshiba has always been a big supporter of rugby and we are extremely pleased to be associated with this exciting and prestigious event.
"The Rugby World Cup is a driving force in the game with a long and proud heritage and we are very honoured to be sponsoring an event which brings together countries from around the world."
Millar said: "The rugby community eagerly awaits the start of Rugby World Cup 2007 and a tournament that promises to be the most successful in its 20-year history. With less than eight months to go until the opening match in Paris, there has been unprecedented demand for tickets, all six worldwide partnership packages have been sold and we now have another major sponsor on board."
World partners for the tournament include Visa International, EDF, Peugeot, GMF, Societe Generale and SNCF.
